A leading UK galvanising company got in touch because they were having problems feeding groundwater which was washed off the site and had the potential of containing surface pollutants and feeding them into the filtration system. This company, the engineering team had tried a variety of different fluid handling solutions but were having problems with reliability; centrifugal pumps would not stay primed, self-priming pumps were failing after being run dry and the problem with positive displacement pumps was that filters were becoming blocked.
Now anyone who knows anything about pumps and fluid handling solutions could may well be jumping up and down on the spot shouting ‘air operated diaphragm pumps’ over and over again because they can be run dry, are self-priming AND can handle solid particles but herein lies their next problem – there isn’t enough compressed air on site…
So, we need a pump that can be run dry, handle contaminants, is self-priming and doesn’t need an independent air supply. There is a fantastic solution that can meet all of these requirements and that is the revolutionary new air-operated diaphragm pump – more commonly knows as the EODD. This pump solution is an air-operated diaphragm pump that operates electronically and does not require compressed air at all. It comes in a 1 inch or 2 inch option, the seal-less diaphragm pump eliminates leaking and failures caused by being run dry, is able to be stalled under pressure and reduces energy consumption by up to 80% AND not only can it be installed on site as a static option but it is also available on a trolley with 120v, 240v or 480v motor options.
The electronic diaphragm pump has now been in situ for six months without incident and has run consistently at varying speeds depending on water levels so has been a successful solution to a persistent problem.
