In the fast-paced manufacturing world, finding efficient solutions to equipment challenges is crucial, and sometimes upgrading pump technology is the best solution. We recently encountered a new customer facing a dilemma with their ageing mechanical seal pump used for handling solvents in their production process. Their existing pump had become obsolete and there were no longer any spare parts available – they had already had an unsuccessful repair attempt with another company, which left them in a bit of a tough spot.
A long-established paint manufacturer here in the UK, over the years, they have become a prominent player in the industry. They are known for offering innovative and compliant paints and coatings to a wide variety of markets. Their diverse product portfolio includes wet paint, aerosols, and specialist coatings and supplies a range of industries including commercial transport, OEMs, bus & coach manufacturers, civil engineering & construction companies, the model & hobby trade, and specialist automotive finishes.
Out with the Old, In with the New
To get started, we visited the customer’s manufacturing facility so that we could talk to the team and gather all the essential information so that we could propose a solution that would not only address their current concerns but also improve the overall efficiency and safety of their operations.
One of the things we quickly identified was the benefit of replacing their old mechanically sealed centrifugal pump with a seal-less magnetically driven centrifugal pump. The advantages of swapping to a mag drive pump were huge, namely the fact that these pumps are designed not to leak any vapours into the atmosphere and actively prevent any potential harm to the environment and the team on the ground.
Power Monitor for Enhanced Pump Protection
As this particular customer had been subject to a mag drive pump being run dry in the past, they were understandably wary so we recommended integrating a power monitor to help protect the pump from these kinds of problems in the future. Power monitors can detect dry run situations and automatically shut the pump down to prevent damage which means our customer could enjoy improved safety and experience better pump performance and longevity.
Immediate Stock Availability
This time taken to identify the problem in the first place and the failed repair meant that there was now a greater sense of urgency. Our team was well-prepared, and we were delighted to offer an ATEX-certified pump from our stock, which made sure production could continue without unnecessary delays. We delivered the new pump on the very next day.
A Resounding Success
Since the installation of the mag drive pump and power monitor, the pump has been operating seamlessly, without any issues. The customer is really happy with the performance and reliability of the new setup and is now considering replacing more of their single mechanical seal pumps with mag drive pumps.
At CDR Pumps, our mission is to provide reliable, efficient and long-lasting solutions tailored to the unique needs of our customers. In this particular case, we addressed the challenge posed by an obsolete mechanical seal pump by introducing a new mag drive pump with a power monitor. The resulting pump system offered not only increased efficiency and performance but also a safer and more environmentally friendly work environment.
As we continue to work closely with our customers to understand their specific requirements, we look forward to providing more innovative solutions that drive progress and elevate the standards of industrial equipment performance and safety.
