With the knowledge of challenging applications for liquid ring vacuum pump systems, we have developed an excellent relationship with the team at Pompe Travaini in Italy over the years. Their ability to provide a top-quality product and service has allowed us to build a strong market in the liquid ring vacuum pump sector. We hold many units in stock in the UK, which is allowing us to create a quick response when required.

Liquid ring vacuum pumps (LRVP) are an important part of many processes on a chemical plant especially for distillation columns, drying and low-pressure reactors. Vacuum systems are not complicated but need to be balanced and set up correctly to maintain their reliability.

Recently a customer of ours reported that their two-stage liquid ring vacuum pump had become noisy that was pointing towards premature failure and unreliable operation, unfortunately, a spare unit was not held on-site.

This two-stage liquid ring vacuum pump operated at a flow rate of 210m3/hr at 33mbar, the process water that created the liquid ring had a temperature of 25C.

Due to the urgency of this unit, CDR pumps working in conjunction with the Pompe Travaini factory in Italy shipped a two-stage liquid ring vacuum pump within a week, to ensure the process was up and running without any impact to manufacturing.

Pompe Travaini & CDR Pumps UK build a strong market in Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps

Sales Manager at CDR Pumps UK, Kevin Pratt Says

‘It is always important to react quickly to these situations but equally important to understand the mode of failure to prevent these issues occurring again, Process water that feeds liquid ring vacuum pumps should be around 15C with the correct flowrate supplying a vacuum of 33mbar. This prevents the liquid ring from boiling off and cavitating.

It was discovered that the unit had been cavitating due to process water temperature being too high and the process flowrate being too low.

To prevent further issues of cavitation, the process water was dropped to 15C and the flow rate controlled by a regulator supplied by ourselves.

The new vacuum unit was fitted within a week, changes were made to the process of water supply. Now the vacuum set operates without excessive noise and has increased reliability.

With a working knowledge of applications and the support of a proactive factory, we can provide an efficient service that is engineered with increased reliability in mind’

Two ETN lined magnetic drive pumps used in a tanker unloading project

Enhancing Control and Safety in Tanker Unloading Operations

A long-term customer, who operates within the chemical manufacturing industry, approached us because they needed to modernise and improve control over their tanker unloading processes. Their existing systems operated by either using the “blowing method” or relying on pumps mounted on the tankers and weren’t particularly reliable, consistent, or safe, especially when it comes to handling aggressive chemicals such as 96% Sulphuric Acid and 50% Hydrogen Peroxide.

Industrial plant emitting clean steam instead of carbon emissions, representing decarbonization through the use of fume scrubbers.

The Right Pump for Fume Scrubbers

Chemical pumps improve the performance of your fume scrubbers!
It’s a bold statement, but true.  Industrial ventilation plays a key role in workplace safety and regulatory compliance in manufacturing plants. Industries like chemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and metalworking rely on robust (and reliable) ventilation systems to remove harmful fumes, particulates,…
