As a provider of a wide range of fluid handling solutions, CDR Pumps supply a wide variety of pumps and systems to the chemical, pharmaceutical, nuclear and manufacturing industries, including PFA Lined Pumps.

Recently, we were approached by a chemical manufacturing company who produce the raw materials that feed into the manufacturing industry as a whole across the UK and globally.  They required a safe solution to unload a 36% Hydrochloric Acid solution from a tanker, and sometimes two tankers at the same time; at a variety of different flowrates with the added risks of ‘higher than at ambient’ temperatures of 30°c and 40°c respectively releasing toxic Hydrochloric Acid fumes.  The acid is not only toxic to the people working alongside it but is also corrosive to a wide variety of manufacturing materials.

The customer’s needs varied from flow rates of 12.5 m3/hour for recirculation up to 73 m3/hour for the tanker unloading applications.

For this application, it was decided that PFA Lined chemical pumps were the right choice. PerFluoroAlkoxy, a copolymer resin, provides excellent resistance to chemical corrosion; can be used in high temperature applications as it features a very high ‘melt rate’ and is extremely resistant to stress and cracking.

PFA lined pumps are not necessarily exclusive to CDR Pumps, however they are not common place in the pump manufacturers market due to the high cost and level of resources involved.  At our manufacturing facility, we have spent our time mastering the process of key lining our chemical pumps so that customers can benefit from exceptionally high chemical resistance that it provides.

For this application, we supplied our customer with four UTN-BL pumps, a close coupled PFA Lined magnetic drive pump.  Featuring a zero-vapour loss design, this centrifugal pump is the safest option keeping fumes and fluids safely contained.  We met the customers vari-flow requirements by adding a variable speed drive which gives the flexibility they need without causing any damage to the system or the pumps.  Ordered, manufactured, tested and delivered within six weeks meant that this site could save energy (and therefore) costs significantly quicker than they had anticipated.

With over sixty years of experience in the chemical pumps market, our team can advise you on the best pump for your application.

Enhancing Control and Safety in Tanker Unloading Operations

A long-term customer, who operates within the chemical manufacturing industry, approached us because they needed to modernise and improve control over their tanker unloading processes. Their existing systems operated by either using the “blowing method” or relying on pumps mounted on the tankers and weren’t particularly reliable, consistent, or safe, especially when it comes to handling aggressive chemicals such as 96% Sulphuric Acid and 50% Hydrogen Peroxide.

The Right Pump for Fume Scrubbers

Chemical pumps improve the performance of your fume scrubbers!
It’s a bold statement, but true.  Industrial ventilation plays a key role in workplace safety and regulatory compliance in manufacturing plants. Industries like chemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and metalworking rely on robust (and reliable) ventilation systems to remove harmful fumes, particulates,…

Our Guide to Distillery Pumps

What You Need to Know
Moving thousands of litres of valuable spirits through various production stages each day, pumps are at the core of alcohol manufacturing and distilleries. A single pump failure can completely stop production, compromise product quality, and result in significant financial losses for UK distillery operations.
Choosing the right…
