Last week I visited a site who was having problems with the relatively short shelf life of their metallic submersible pumps. The pumps were handling Ferric Chloride which, as I am sure you know, a corrosive and toxic acid so was wearing out the metallic pump quickly.
The most obvious solution for a replacement is an air operated diaphragm pump. With custom material options available, diaphragm pumps are appositive displacement pump and are a good choice for ensuring fluids are not aggravated and feature a seal-less design. However, in this situation the nearest air supply was 25 metres away and the cost implication was too high to consider moving it.
One alternative to this would be a customised small STN mag drive pump with a rubber impeller and non-return valve, constructed wholly of either Polypropylene or PVDF negating the need to re-locate the air and increasing the shelf life of the pump. Another alternative is the new-to-market electronically operated diaphragm pump which has all the benefits of an air operated diaphragm pump without the need to relocate the air as it features an electric drive which improves energy consumption.
One of the benefits of getting in touch with our sales team directly is the insight they can give you. Sometimes the pump that was once the best option is no longer the right choice and we are here to help you through the process.
